Calicut, December, 2023: Dr Agarwals Group of Eye Hospitals, one of India’s leading super-speciality eye hospital groups, has opened an advanced eyecare facility in Calicut here today to introduce cutting-edge eye care services in the region. As part of the inauguration of the facility, the new hospital will offer free consultations to patients till December 31, 2023.
The inaugural function saw the participation of Mr. M.K. Raghavan, Member of Parliament, Kozhikode, Congress as the chief guest, who offered his support for the hospital’s future initiatives with respect to the promotion of eye donation. Mr.Mohanan Master, Calicut District Secretary, CPI (M) and Mr.N. C. Aboobacker, Indian Union Muslim League – Calicut Dis. Secretary took part in the event as guests of honour. Among the key members of the hospital who were present at the event included Mr. Rahul Agarwal, COO, Dr Agarwals Group of Eye Hospital, Dr. S. Soundari, Regional Head – Clinical Services, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, and Dr Mihir Shah, Head – Clinical Services, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospitals, Calicut.
Occupying about 10,000 sq.ft area, the hospital is located at Patteri, Pottammal, Kozhikode. It houses high-end facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of cornea, retina, refractive, cataract, squint, and glaucoma, among others. The hospital will offer a wide array of super specialty eye care services including advanced surgical procedures such as Keratoconus & C3R surgery, Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery, Lasik, Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE), and vitreo retinal surgeries.
Talking about the group’s investment and expansion plans, Mr.Rahul Agarwal, said, “We are committed to transforming Kerala into a destination for world class eye care services. We are investing about Rs. 100 crores in Kerala over the next two years. The investment will go towards adding new hospitals and modernising the existing four hospitals. All our hospitals will have the most recent technological advancements. Our objective is to provide our patients with improved access to high-quality eye care and generate employment opportunities in the healthcare sector.”
He added that Dr Agarwals is looking to open its second facility in Trivandrum within the next financial year, and establish its presence in Kannur, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kollam, Thalassery, and Malappuram by the end of the financial year 25-26.
In her comments, Dr. S. Soundari said, “With a legacy of excellence in eye care that spans several decades, we bring our wealth of expertise to Calicut to address a wide range of eye conditions and disorders. The new hospital is designed to offer a comprehensive range of services, including routine eye examinations, advanced diagnostic procedures, and various surgical interventions. From cataract surgery to laser vision correction, the facility will cater to the diverse needs of patients, ensuring personalised treatment plans for each individual.”
In his comments, Dr Mihir Shah said that the Calicut hospital is equipped with advanced equipment, including Alcon Legion Phaco machine, Constellation vision system VR machine, IOL Master, OCT, Fundus photo, FFA, Topography BScan, AScanmachines. The eyecare services will be offered by six experienced doctors and seven optometrists, besides a competent team comprising opticians, pharmacists, lab technicians, paramedics, counsellors, and patient care executives. In addition to the clinical services, the new facility will engage in promoting awareness about eye health and preventive measures within the local community. Educational programs, outreach initiatives, and community eye care camps will be organised to ensure that residents are well-informed about the importance of regular eye check-ups and maintaining optimal eye health.
Dr Agarwals Group of Eye Hospitals currently operates over 160 eyecare facilities, including 131 hospitals and 15 eye clinics in India, and 15 premier facilities in Africa. The group is rapidly expanding its network – it is all set to add new centres in Punjab, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and other Indian states. The hospital will have opened around 20 green field and 5 brown field hospitals, and 30 eye care clinics in India and abroad by the next financial year.
